She used her talents to help others. As a member of her communities she became a leader. Her husband Jesse said she participated in everything. She was on the Board of Directors for El Grito Headstart, SIGRED, Yucca Lodge advisory board, Southwest Council of Government, Vice-chairman of CEDAB; Prospector of Chamber of Commerce; Mayor of Santa Clara and a trustee. She is survived by loving husband of 28 yrs. Jesse Atencio of the family home; four sons, Robert Hatcher and wife Cathy of Albuquerque; Jesse Atencio Jr. and wife LeAnn of Fairbanks, Alaska; Michael Atencio of Santa Clara and Gregory Atencio of Pomona, CA; one daughter, Peggy Sockwell and husband Kevin of Leighton, Ala; three brothers, Michael Brennan and wife Dorothy of Granger, Indiana; Philip Brennan of N.Hollywood, CA and James Brennan of South Bend, Indiana; one sister, Patricia Novy and husband Michael of Elmhurst, Illinois; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Joseph; one sister, Mary. Visitation will take place Thursday, March 5th at 3-7pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with the prayer vigil and holy rosary to start at 7pm with Deacon Richard Rodriguez reciting. The funeral service will take place Friday, March 6th at 10am at Santa Clara Catholic Church with Father Becerra officiating. Pallbearers will be Ray Terrazas, Manuel H. Lucero, Greg Atencio, Kevin Sockwell, Manuel Lucero and Tony Rivera. In lieu of flowers family request donations be made to El Refugio in Silver City, NM.
