SOUTH BEND, IN - Phyllis Jean Kabay, 74, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at McAllen Medical Center in McAllen, Texas. Phyllis was born October 15, 1944 in South Bend, IN to Byron Goodspeed and Wilma (Replogle Goodspeed) Paar. On July 11, 1964 at Maple Grove Church in South Bend, the former Phyllis Goodspeed married Harold A. Kabay.
Phyllis is survived by her husband Harold, son Brian (Crystal) Kabay, daughter Karman Eash, and son DeWayne Kabay. She is also survived by grandchildren James Kabay, Isaac Eash, Aryn Eash, Marina Lindsey, Summer Lindsey, and Sydney Edgerton, brother John (Linda) Goodspeed, sisters Mary Sue (Ron) Albers and Nancy (Brad) Milliken, stepbrother Butch (Lois) Paar, sister-in-law Bessie (Jim) Alward, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Byron and Wilma; stepfather Leo Paar, stepbrother Larry Paar, brother-in-law Edward Kabay, and sister-in-law Mary (Gilbert) Jones.
Phyllis enjoyed crafting of all kinds, especially quilting, sewing, and scrapbooking, and often made beautiful gifts for family and friends, but she especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She retired from KeyBank, Lakeville, in October 1999 after almost 20 years of service and enjoyed wintering in Texas and Alabama ever since. She was a life-long member of Maple Grove Church.
Cremation will take place in Texas and a memorial service will be planned for a later time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Maple Grove UMC, 22019 New Rd., South Bend, IN 46614.
