Mary Lou Vorheis Sept. 27, 1944 - Aug. 26, 2015 SOUTH BEND - Mary Lou Vorheis of Midland, TX, went to be home with the Lord on August 26, 2015, after fighting a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born in South Bend, IN, on September 27, 1944, raised by her parents, Christian Junior Zimmer and Pauline Baker Zimmer.

After graduating from Riley High School she attended nursing college in Dallas, Texas, where she became a certified LVN. She worked as a pediatric nurse in private practice for several years. Mary Lou moved to Midland, TX, in 1980. She worked for Wagner and Brown LTD for over 31 years, forming many close and lasting friendships there. After retiring as a Production Secretary, she worked for Parsley Energy as a Production Tech where she made many more friends. Mary Lou fought her cancer with strength, courage and dignity. The cancer defeated her body but never her spirit. She died peacefully and with her eyes on Jesus. She loved her Lord and Savior throughout her fight.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Neil and Larry Zimmer. She is survived by her husband, Jerry Vorheis; sons, Chad and Marc Hartter; grandchildren, Brianna and Franc Hartter; stepson, Tommy Vorheis, all of Midland; sister, Norma (Roger) Horn, Mishawaka, IN; great-aunt, Marilyn Slabaugh, Kokomo, IN; nephew, Scott (Rosie) Balha, Westley Chapel, FL; nephew, Todd (Michelle) Zimmer; nieces, Cami Ivers, Tracy (Jerry) Dale, all of Kentucky, and Shelia (Kim) Fridley, Wrightwood, CA. She also leaves behind many great-nieces and nephews.

We all will miss her smile, laughter and wonderful sense of humor. Mary Lou showed by example of how to love, putting her faith in the Lord and by how much she cherished her family and friends. A memorial service wasl held on Saturday, August 29, 2015, at Kelview Heights Baptist Church at 2:00 pm, led by former Kelview Pastor Jerry Berry.

The family is especially grateful for the care given by Dr. Karen Carr, nurses and caregivers at Texas Oncology, the MMH Oncology Unit and Hospice of Midland. The family requests in lieu of flowers that a donation be made to the American Cancer Society of Midland, 2304 West Wadley, Midland, TX 79705.
