Lt. Col. Charles F. Hatfield, Age 85, of Dublin, OH, passed away January 19, 2021 at Dublin Retirement Village. Chuck was from South Bend, IN.

Preceded in death by parents Harold and Ann Hatfield; sisters Betty Fuller and Jean Siegel. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Francie; children Charlie (Maggie) Hatfield, Leesburg, VA, Cristina (Doug) Carrera, Hilliard, OH, Craig Hatfield, Euclid, OH; grandchildren Kyle (Liz) Carrera, Courtney (Joe) Bartholomew, Ethan Hatfield, Conner Carrera, William Hatfield and great-grandson, James "My Man" Carrera; siblings Hal (Pat) Hatfield and Sue Quinn.

He was a graduate of James Whitcomb Riley High School and St. Benedictine College and attended grad school at Wright State University at the School of Business. Retired veteran of the United States Army where he had a distinguished military career, which included service in Korea and Vietnam. He was awarded the Legion of Merit and the Distinguished Flying Cross while flying a UH-1D Huey "Smoke" helicopter. As a Master Army Aviator, Chuck inspired all who knew him with his courage and zest for life. He was a member of the Flight 9 Order of the Daedalian's and Distinguished Flying Cross of Dayton. His assignments ranged from Georgia, Texas, Kansas, Colorado, Arizona, Korea, Vietnam, Venezuela and Panama, just to name a few.

After retiring from the military in 1976, he started a second career at Dayton Power and Light as a Business Development Trainer until he retired in 1997. His love for travel continued as he visited many countries to include all 7 continents. Some of his favorites were hiking in Machu Picchu, Peru, scaling the Great Wall of China, safari in the Serengeti; and hiking Mt. Everest in Nepal.

A private burial with Military Honors at Dayton National Cemetery will be on Friday, January 22. A Celebration of Life will be at Schoedinger Dublin 5980 Perimeter Dr at 11:30am Saturday, January 23 where a reception will be held immediately following.
