John E. "Jack" Tully Jr.

John E. "Jack" Tully Jr., 62, of St. Clair died unexpectedly Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, in Port Huron Hospital.

He was born to John E. Tully Sr. and Carolyn Lange Tully on June 19, 1939, in South Bend, IN, and attended schools in Indiana graduating from Riley High School and Valparaiso University.

John was the sales manager for Wirtz Mfg. Co., Port Huron, and previously was National Sales Manager of North America for Bitrode Corp., Fenton, Mo. Prior to that post he was with MAC Engineering of Benton Harbor, National Waterlift of Kalamazoo, and the Smithsonian Institution, Washington D.C.

A twenty year resident of Schoolcraft, he was very active in community activities serving as a volunteer EMT for Schoolcraft Ambulance Service, serving as an officer in various school activities, and as a state central committee member for the Michigan Democratic Party. John coached rocket football and junior pro basketball in Schoolcraft, and also served as a high school varsity coach in tennis and cross country. For several years he officiated sports at both the high school and collegiate level.

Prior to leaving Schoolcraft, he spent six years as a sports writer for the Vicksburg Commercial-Express and continued writing during his visits back to the area.

John was especially proud of his Irish-American dual citizenship.

He is survived by his wife, Caroline Tully whom he married in October of 1989; his children, Jackie Tinklenberg of Schoolcraft, Janet Tully of Alma, and John (Terrie) Tully of Centreville; six grandchildren, Miranda Tully, Jared and Austin Tinklenberg, John E. Tully IV, Travis Tully and Alexis Tully.

Cremation has taken place. There will be a visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today in Smith Family Funeral Home, North, 1525 Hancock St.

A service in John's memory will take place in Schoolcraft later in the week.
