Lionel F. "Scotty" Scott

SOUTH BEND - Lionel F. Scott, 83, of South Bend, passed away at 8:20 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012, in the care of St. Paul's Retirement Community. Scotty worked for the Studebaker Corporation, Stone Container, and then retired in 1990 from Barger Packaging Corporation in Elkhart. He was born on December 4, 1928, in South Bend, to the late Frank L. and Frieda (Peters) Scott, and had lived in the South Bend area all of his life.

On June 3, 1950, in South Bend, Scotty married June A. Henry, who preceded him in death on June 26, 1989. Then, on June 22, 1991, in South Bend, he married Roma M. Annis, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Susan G. (Frank) Klota of South Bend and Laurel S. (Dean) Key of Mishawaka; two sons, Randall W. Scott of South Bend and Gregory P. (Maggie) Annis of West Linn, OR. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Allison (Robert Aldridge Jr.) Heroy of Mishawaka, Scott Heroy of Fort Worth, Texas, Christopher Heroy of South Bend, Jennifer (Nicholas) Murray of Mishawaka, Melissa (Timothy) Towne of Marietta, Georgia, Erin (Matt Speers) Annis of Portland, OR; two great-grandchildren, Brennan Murray and Alexandra Heroy; one sister, Betty Sandstrom, and one brother, Robert (June) Scott, both of South Bend; and many nieces and nephews.

A granddaughter, Stephanie Burket, and a brother-in-law, Dean Sandstrom, preceded him in death.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, 915 North Ironwood, South Bend, IN 46615. Rev. Scott Bowie will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, IN. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. today in the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, IN, and one hour prior to services in church.

Scotty was a kind, gentle and intelligent man who had a great sense of humor. He was a lifetime member of his church, attended Franklin Grade School, and was a graduate of Riley High School in 1947.

He loved to golf, read, and play cards, especially euchre. He and Roma went on two Regis and Kathy Lee trips to Maui, Hawaii and Orlando, FL, and as an annual event for many years they enjoyed the Chicago Cubs spring training in Mesa, Arizona. Roma and Scotty honeymooned on Mackinac Island and visited there many times, most recently to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary in 2011. Contributions in memory of Lionel F.
