SOUTH BEND - Donald C. Stout, 80, of South Bend, died peacefully in his sleep Thursday, August 13 and went to be with his Lord and Savior. Don was born on September 19, 1928, in Coalmont, IN, to the late Forrest (Jay) and Amanda (Burns) Stout. He moved with the family to South Bend at an early age and lived here the rest of his life.

He was a graduate of Riley High School class of 1947.

He worked for three years at the Studebaker Corporation. In 1950 he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served proudly during the Korean conflict stationed at Amarillo Air Force Base, Texas. He reached the rank of Staff Sergeant when discharged in 1954. In 1955 he was employed by The Torrington Company as the Paymaster. He retired after 30 years of service in 1985. He then worked for five years at The Williams Home Center, South Bend.

on was active in the church serving as an officer of the congregation and as a Deacon, first at Emmaus Lutheran Church and then at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, both in South Bend. He and his wife were youth counselors in the church, he worked with Junior Achievement youth and was a coach and umpire for the Southeast Little League for eleven years. He was a member of American Legion Post 303. For the past three years he has been an enthusiastic volunteer at the Studebaker Museum serving as a tour guide. Don was married in South Bend to Marlene Muckenfuss on October 25, 1952.

He is survived by his wife Marlene; a daughter, Carol S. Stout, McLean, VA; two sons, Robert J. Stout Sr., Lakeville, IN, and David W. Stout (Valerie), Clarksville, TN. Also surviving are grandchildren Paul (Destanie) Stout, South Bend, Peter Stout, South Bend, Lealah Stout, Clarksville, TN, Emily Stout, Clarksville, TN, Robert J. Stout Jr., Plymouth, IN, and Trenton Stout, Plymouth, IN. Two great-grandchildren, Evan Stout and Eliana Stout, South Bend, IN; a sister, Betty (Robert) Kincaid, South Bend, IN; and a brother William M. (Julia) Stout, Marion, OH.

Don loved his wife and children and all his family. He was generous in showing his caring and concern for them. He thoroughly enjoyed his friends and made friends wherever he went. He will be missed so much.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 17 in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. Rev. Steven Latzke will officiate. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Friends may visit with the family from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday, August 16 in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend and one hour prior to services in the church on Monday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 805 S. 29th Street, South Bend, IN 46615.
