Timothy Jay Jones

SOUTH BEND, IN - Timothy Jay Jones, age 62, fell asleep in the arms of Jesus on Thursday, November 15. Tim was born to the union of Rev. George B. Jones, Sr. & Hattie Mae (Drake) Jones in South Bend, IN. He was the 8th of 12 children. He accepted the Lord Jesus at an early age & was baptized at New Testament Baptist Church founded by his father. He attended the Christian Stronghold Church of Dallas, TX with his loving and devoted wife, Jeanna. Tim was educated in the SBCSC system & attended IU at Bloomington, IN. At IU he became a proud member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

Prior to relocating to Dallas 30 years ago, Tim was known in the Michiana area as a gifted & talented vocalist. He started singing gospel in his father's church & was a member of the Jones family band before embarking upon a solo career. He was a member of the “Love Men” ensemble with the IU Soul Revue. Locally he formed the Tim Jones & Flight Band. In Dallas, Tim performed with the Memphis Soul Revue & was the featured vocalist with the Fingerprints Jazz Band for 30 years. Tim was a dedicated employee at Alford Media for nearly 20 years. His last job in SB was with the SBCSC as a school bus driver; he was affectionately known as the “singing bus driver.” Besides his talents, Tim will be fondly remembered for his beautiful smile, his charming personality, & his unconditional love & dedication to his family.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Jeanna (Hunt) Jones; his mother, Hattie Mae Jones Brown; his children, Tamond (Carrera), Tamira Jones Davis, and Jaleesa (Aaron) Austin; his grandchildren, La'Wren, Maliek, Shaadi, Shaari, Stephon Timothy, Jazmine, Kamauri, and Aaron Jr.; his siblings, George Jr., Clara Davis, Betty, Priscilla Phillips, Calvin Bruce, Joseph (Marsha), Angela (Ernesto) Windhauser, Georgia (Rick) Wilson, Tracy (Yvette), Oscar (Erma), Chris (Lakeshia), and LaShanda; & a special “brother”, Carlis Phillips, Sr., as well as dozens of beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, along with a host of other relatives, friends, & adoring fans.

Tim was preceded in death by his father, Rev. George B. Jones, Sr.; stepmother, Elnora Jones; his in-laws, Albert & Florence Hill; brothers, Cleophas & Cecil; paternal grandparents, Rev. Frank Jones & Ella Mae Jones, and Cora Jones; and maternal grandparents, Sylvester Drake & Ossie Mae Wilson. Funeral Services were held on November 24, 2018 at the Christian Stronghold Church, Dallas, TX.
