Constance Lewis (Ziegert) - Class Of 1940 VIEW PROFILE

Constance Lewis (Ziegert)

Constance C. (Lewis) Ziegert

BOISE, ID 1921 - 2016

Connie was born in South Bend, IN and was a (happy) child of the Depression. Her father, Fred Lewis, was a tinkerer and inventor, who was never rich but taught Connie some of the most important lessons of life, while her mother, Mary Lewis, taught her some great homemaker skills as Connie was a skilled seamstress and cook.

Connie graduated from Riley HS in South Bend, IN and then worked as a legal secretary during WW 2 before she married Bill Ziegert, her high school sweet heart in 1944. Connie was the Vice President of her High School class (Bill was the President) and was proud that she never missed one day of school for illness from kindergarten to her graduation.

Bill, after the war, worked his whole career for Standard Oil / Amoco and the family moved nine times in fifteen years during the time she was raising their three sons. At one point, Connie found out that Bill had been transferred to another posting in Kansas on the same day that the movers were moving them into their new house in St. Louis, yet she always approached these changes with a positive attitude and made sure her sons were well supported during these significant life changes.

Later, after her sons had gone on to college, Connie followed her natural talents at accounting and investing by serving as a tax preparer for several years. Upon Bill's retirement, they built a special retirement home on a lake near Valparaiso, IN where they lived for 25 years and enjoyed many friends, some of whom were younger and marveled at Connie and Bill's energy and zest for life. In 2008, they relocated to Meadow Lake Village - Touchmark in Meridian, ID, where they lived independently until just recently and acquired another new circle of friends.

Connie is survived by her husband and high school sweetheart, Bill, as well as her three sons and daughters-in-love (Bill and Julaine of Boise, ID, John and Vivian of Charlotte, NC, and David and Dee of Wichita, KS). In addition the family includes seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. A Celebration of her Life will be held in late February in Boise where all of her family are expected to attend.
