William C. Ziegert

William Charles Ziegert MERIDIAN, ID - William Charles Ziegert, age 96, of Meridian, Idaho passed away on November 18, 2017. He was born on November 20, 1921 in South Bend, Indiana. He was the son of Charles and Anna (Stephan) Ziegert.

On March 12, 1944 he married Constance Lewis, the daughter of Fred and Mary Lewis. They were blessed with three sons, William Lewis Ziegert, born July 23, 1945, John Charles Ziegert, born January 27, 1948, and David Thomas Ziegert, born October, 26, 1951.

He attended Franklin College, Franklin, Indiana; the University of North Carolina, and graduated from the University of Chicago, Illinois with a degree in Meteorology. In June, 1944, he received a commission as 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corp, and became responsible for weather forecasting at Army Air Bases in Georgia, North Carolina, Florida, and Tennessee. He was honorably discharged in June 1946 with the rank of 1st Lieutenant.

After leaving the Army, he accepted a sales position in South Bend, Indiana with Standard Oil Company (Indiana) and remained in their employment until his retirement in January, 1983. During his approximately 36 years with the company he held various positions with them in the States of Indiana, Illinois, Kansas, and Missouri. He was promoted 27 times to positions including Sales Representative, Sales Manager, Manager of Manpower Planning, Marketing Manager, and Vice-President of Marketing.

Upon retirement in January of 1983 they purchased a lake-front lot on Lake Louise in Valparaiso, Indiana. They had a custom-designed ranch house with a walk-out basement built there. On the lakefront the u-shaped boat dock was equipped with a boat lift and canopy. In 2007 they sold their Lake Louise home and moved to Meridian, Idaho to be near their oldest son, Bill, and his wife Julaine. He is survived by two sons, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
