Robert "Bert" Edward Miller was born in South Bend, Indiana on October 26, 1949. His parents were Carl C. Miller and Betty J. Miller of South Bend, Indiana. They passed away in 1996 (his father Carl Miller) and his mother in 2002 in Venice, Florida. He graduated from Riley High School in 1968 in South Bend, Indiana and Indiana University in South Bend, Indiana in 1972. He majored in History and Political Science and received his Bachelor of Science Degree. He was employed briefly by The South Bend Community School Corporation as a teacher. He was also an office worker for Mathis Machine of South Bend, Indiana and worked in various insurance offices. He was an United States Army veteran. He also coached Little League Baseball and Football and Basketball while living in South Bend, Indiana. He dedicated many hours of service to this and received numerous awards for his services to children athletics.
He moved to Venice, Florida in 1983 and began again coaching Little League Baseball, Pop Warner Football and basketball at the YMCA. He received numerous awards as a coach and an athletic director in Venice. His biggest award was is he was inducted into the Venice Little League Hall of Fame as a super coach and worker. His plack is in the foyer at Bogey's Restaurant in Venice, Florida. His hobby was sports and he was an avid Notre Dame University Football fan. He also was a musician and played the clarinet in the high school band. Bert was also a member of Grace United Methodist Church of South Bend, Indiana.
He passed away in his home peacefully but unexpectently on Oct. 24th, 2012 of congestive heart failure.
He leaves his cousin Beverly (Cliff) Erickson, and his cousin Paula (Mike) Hoffman Robinson and Jacob Robinson, Christopher Robinson, Travis Robinson and Addison Robinson. He loved his family and his parents and grandparents deeply and his friends in Venice, Florida.
Services will be held mid-November.
