South Bend - Joan Linnea Hartman, 84, formerly of South Bend, passed away at home November 2nd, in Sevierville, Tennessee after an extended illness. She was born February 22, 1937 in Plymouth, Indiana, the daughter of Vern Haag and Greta (Haag) Thomas, who proceed her in death along with her brother Ronald Haag

She lived most of her life in South Bend until moving to Sevierville in 2016. She graduated from Riley High School in 1955, and later that year married Vernon Richard Hartman. They were married for 46 years until his death in 2001. She is survived by her brother Jack (Martha) Haag of Londonderry, New Hampshire, her two children, Stephen (Joanne) Hartman of South Bend and Cheryl (Jeff) Guyberson of Sevierville, Tennessee, grandsons Eric (Stacy Davis) Hartman of Wendell North Carolina, Bradley (Haylee Stinebaugh) of Kettering, Ohio, Cpl. Kyle Hartman U.S.M.C., Doug Guyberson of Sevierville, Tennessee, Shaun Guyberson of Elkhart, Indiana, Ian Guyberson of Aurora, Colorado, granddaughters Michaela (James) Fields of Knoxville, Tennessee and Elizabeth Guyberson of Aurora, Colorado, great-grandsons Martin Fields, Kai Guyberson, Issac and Brantley Guyberson and Tristen Dalton, and five nieces and nephews.

Joan was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in South Bend.

Joan was a private, generous and warm person who loved her cats and being with family and friends. In her younger days she enjoyed bowling, playing cards and spending weekends at Indian Lake at her in-laws' cottage. She had a passion for collecting cookbooks and recipes and trying them out. YouTube was her go-to channel for watching shows that were centered around animals, the paranormal, Bigfoot and of course cooking. She also loved to listen to Louis Armstrong and Al Hirt. She fulfilled her desire to be an archeologist and visited Egypt to see the Pyramids of Giza. She worked for many years at Sears, at the warehouse and in customer service. She also worked at Hans Burkhart Pharmacy, Brant's 5 & 10 and Masjerek's.

Joan requested only for a memorial gathering of friends and family which will be held Tuesday, December 14th, 2021, from 4-6 pm in the Fellowship Hall of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church 225 Haney Avenue, South Bend.
