Elizabeth “Betty” Ann (Colson) Ross

LAKEVILLE - Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Ross, 76, residing in Lakeville, passed away at 2:09 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19, 2011, in Memorial Hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born in South Bend on October 23, 1934, to the late Ernest and Elizabeth (Kyte) Colson.

 Betty was a graduate of Riley High School and Roosevelt University, Chicago, Illinois, with a degree in art and education. She lived in Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, and Nevada before returning home. In recent years she worked as the Lakeville Town Clerk and at Curves.

Betty is survived by her sister, Vera Gouker of Lakeville; nieces and nephews, Kathy (Michael) Gray of Mishawaka, Kurt (Kathy) Kline of Bremen, Karen Iovino of Lakeville, John (Anne) Colson of Carbondale, CO, and Stuart Colson and Ruth Colson, both of Madison, WI; 5 great-nephews, Adam & Brett Gray, Gabriel Iovino, and Jay and Danny Kline; as well as a great-great-niece and nephew, Analise and Ben Iovino; and brother-in-law, Raymond DeRyckere.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary C. DeRyckere; brother, John Colson; and great-nephew, Brian Kline. Betty loved to paint and was a voracious reader. She was a fun and funny woman who made friends easily. She liked cats, bowling, Lake Michigan, chocolate, history and bagpipe music. She was a die-hard believer in civil rights for all people and was proud of her activism. We will always miss her.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of Betty's life Saturday, October 29th, at 5:00 P.M. at the Hilltop Restaurant, 303 S. Michigan Street, Lakeville, IN. Palmer Funeral Home and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the family with arrangements.

Contributions in memory of Betty may be donated to Pet Refuge, 2300 W. 6th Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544; to the Humane Society of St. Joseph County, 2506 Grape Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545; or to any charity of the donor's choice.
