Arlene Joan (Fleischaker) Cerney

Arlene Joan Cerney, 89, residing in South Bend, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at Robin Run Village in Indianapolis, Indiana.

She was born April 20, 1932 in South Bend, Indiana to John Fleischaker and Mary (Nemeth) Fleischaker, who both preceded Arlene in death.

Arlene was united in marriage to William J. Cerney Jr, who preceded her in death on August 14, 2005.

She is survived by her stepdaughters, Rebecca (David) Tuttle of Indianapolis, Indiana and Barbara (Greg) Stalker of Three Rivers, Michigan; her stepsons, Col. Robert (Aida) Cerney USMC Ret. of Leesburg, Georgia and William (Stephanie) Cerney, III of South Bend, Indiana; her nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Arlene graduated from Riley High School, South Bend and the University of Notre Dame and St. Mary’s College. Arlene began her teaching career at St. Anthony de Padua School, South Bend and went on to teach elementary and middle school for South Bend Public Schools until she retired from teaching in 1997.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, 2310 E Jefferson Blvd, South Bend, IN 46615 with visitation one hour prior to services. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church and Heartland Hospice, 230 W Catalpa Dr D, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
