Mary J. "Julie" Hevel, 96, of South Bend, Indiana passed away at 5:40 p.m. Thursday, September 21, 2023, in Brickyard Healthcare – Fountainview Care Center, Mishawaka, Indiana.

Mary was born on June 24, 1927 in South Bend, Indiana to Val and Mary Hepler. She had been the owner of the former Louvered Door in South Bend for many years.

In 1973 she married Bob Hevel, who preceded her in death in 2005. She was also preceded in death by her son, Tom Richey; her grandson, Matt Leathers; one sister, Lorraine Richey; and one brother, Bob Hepler.

Mary is survived by two daughters, Diane Leathers and Janell (Roger) Meuleman both of South Bend, Indiana; her son Jack (Pam) Richey of South Bend, Indiana; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. Mary enjoyed going to Arlington Race Track, the casino, and cooking.
