April 3, 1927 ~ August 23, 2021 (age 94)

Irene E. Csiszar, devoted and loving wife of 67 years, passed away on Monday, August 23, 2021.

She was born in South Bend, Indiana, April 3, 1927, to Charles and Karolina Toth, her honored and beloved parents. Irene attended Oliver School, James Whitcomb Riley High School, and Continuing Education at Indiana University of South Bend. She was employed as a Secretary to the Senior Vice-President of First Bank and Trust Company until she left to start her family.

When Joseph Csiszar returned home from serving his country in the United States Navy, he and Irene were united in marriage on July 19, 1947, at Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church in South Bend. They enjoyed 67 years of marriage until his passing in 2014. Sadly, her beloved son, Charles Elliott Csiszar passed away at age 49. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Alex S. Toth, of Coupeville, Washington; sister, Rosemarie Cook of Starkville, Mississippi; nephew, Thomas Csiszar; sister-in-law, Marian Mills of New Carlisle, Indiana; and great-niece, Katie Toth.

Irene is survived by her daughter, Dr. Lynne Csiszar of Granger, Indiana; two grandsons, Taylor Cary of Granger, Indiana, and Andrew Cary of Atlanta, Georgia; granddaughter, Kelly Alexandra Csiszar of Lewiston, Maine; sister-in-law, Barbara Toth of Coupeville, Washington; Godson, Robert H. Cook of Atlanta, Georgia; nieces, Constance (Kevin) Willsey of Starkville, Mississippi, Janet (Terry) Backman of Shoreline, Washington, Jennifer (Robert) Henning of Seattle, Washington, Melissa (Roland) Robinson of Tacoma, Washington, Patricia (Randy) Stone of Port Angeles, Washington, Diane (Robert) DeMeyer of LaPorte, Indiana, Betty Jo (Leonard) Sales of LaPorte, Indiana; and Carla (Mark) Huegel of South Bend, Indiana; nephews, Charles (Val) Toth of Poulsbo, Washington, and Andrew (Lisa) Mills of New Carlisle, Indiana.

During the children’s school years, Irene was an involved and active, supportive 1950’s mother and wife. She was P.T.A. President and was always busy with the school community and safety projects. Annual Diamond Lake vacations and travels throughout the United States and traveling their roots in Europe were memorable family occasions.

After the children graduated from college, Irene became a Real Estate Broker for thirty years. She was a longtime member of St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church.

The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks and prayers to their special friends, Andrew Mills, Catherine Brubaker, Clara Snyder and Greg Chavez.

Memorial services for Irene E. Csiszar will be held Saturday, August 28, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Home – River Park Chapel, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, IN 46615. Friends may gather with the family one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place at 2nd Presbyterian Church Memorial Gardens, Indianapolis, Indiana, where her son and husband are interred.
