On Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012 Jacque Edwin Hollister traveled his final journey to be with our Lord and Savior in heaven and reunited with his granddaughter, Emily Hollister and other family members and friends of the family who have previously passed away.  Jacque bravely battled Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and congestive heart failure for the past 10 months of his life, never letting us know of any problems, aches or pains.  Jacque is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Marian.  Their 64th anniversary would have been June 6th of this year.  He is also survived by his son, Jim and wife Louetta who reside in South Bend; daughters Carol Lynn Rothe and husband Craig of Hebron, KY and Debra Caye Broshar and husband Steve of Carmel, IN; grandsons, Eric Hollister of Fishers, IN and Carson Broshar of Carmel; granddaughters, Courtney West and husband Ian of Collinsville, OK and Callie Hartmann, husband Chad and great-granddaughter Emry Hartmann of Houston, TX.; brother, Victor Hollister and wife Nancy of South Bend; and his sister-in-law, Martha Hollister.  Martha’s husband Robert Hollister, Jacque’s brother who preceded him in death also had an extended battle with Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.

Jacque was born in South Bend, IN on July 12, 1926 to Laura E. (Ulbricht) and Carmen E. Hollister and attended Riley High School prior to enlisting in the US Navy.  After being discharged, Jacque was employed at the Studebaker Corp. prior to marrying Marian Pennell on June 6, 1948.  He was a lifelong resident of South Bend.  He was also employed by the US Post Office, Metropolitan Life Insurance, Redi-Froze Corp. and St. John Business Machines.

Jacque was a true American patriot.  He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946 and trained at the US Naval Training Center in Sampson, NY.  He was an armed guard and served on the USS Amphion (AR-13) as a Seaman 1st Class.  Jacque was always proud of his country and of the opportunity he had to serve.  Jacque was a member of the VFW Post 360 Precision Drill Team for many years, marching and performing to many parades and events.  Jacque’s favorite poem was I am Your Flag.  Jacque was also a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, Orak Shrine Temple, Michigan City, IN and was very active in St. Joseph Lodge #45 F & AM.

Jacque was a loving family man who cherished his wife Marian and loved his three chidren, grandchildren, and great-grandchild.  Ever since his youngest daughter, Deb, turned three years of age the family enjoyed camping.  They evolved from a tent to a pop-up trailer and after the kids left home graduated into a fifth wheel trailer behind their Chevy pick-up truck.  Before and after retirement Jacque and Marian traveled the country and cherished their retirement years together with Marian’s sister Ruth Moon and her husband Ernest who passed away in 2011 and Bob and Marge Taylor.  They were all members of the Jayco Club and loved traveling and camping together until health limitations forced them to sell their homes away from home.
