GRANGER - Kenneth "Kenny" Harley Miller, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away September 9, 2012, at his residence in Granger. He was born April 3, 1927, in South Bend, to the late Harley and Thelma (Jackson) Miller, and was a lifetime resident of South Bend.

He married Janice R. (Hartung) Neher on April 14, 1984, in South Bend, who survives. He was married to Viola Sayer from 1948 to 1981. Kenneth is survived by his daughter, Susan M. (Craig) Lee of Honolulu, HI; son, Kenneth S. (Kathleen) Miller of Ada, Michigan; and grandchildren, Erin L. (Michael) Miller-Shupe of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Caitlin A. and Alicia J. Miller of Ada, MI, Nicolas W. and Taylor K. Lee of Honolulu, HI. He often told his family how proud he was of them and how much he loved them. Also surviving are stepchildren, John A. (Donna) Neher of Houma, LA, and James B. Neher of Fishers, IN; step-grandchildren, Carolee (David) Peterson of Denham Springs, LA; step-great-grandchildren, Cale, Briggs and Wyatt Peterson of Denham Springs, LA; sister, Lucille (Terry) Overmyer of South Bend; two nieces and two nephews.

Kenny graduated from Riley High School in 1944. He served proudly as Active Navy Reserve during WW II and Korea.

He worked for Simon Bros./Clark Foods as food salesman for 37 years, retiring in 1989. He enjoyed working as Supervising Usher at the Notre Dame Convocation Center from 1989 until 2010. He also enjoyed woodworking projects and made small furniture and many gifts for family and friends. He was an avid fan of Notre Dame men's and women's basketball and Notre Dame football. Kenny was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Notre Dame, and a member of American Legion Post 357, South Bend.

The family would like to thank Dr. Rafat Ansari, Brandee Flagg and the Hematology Oncology staff at Memorial Hospital, and the amazing valet parking staff. They went above and beyond to give Kenny hope, to help him fight the disease and make him very comfortable. Also a special thanks to Hospice for their compassion and commitment to their patients and the outstanding care they provided to Kenny and support to the family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Friday, September 14, 2012, in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Notre Dame. Burial will follow at Saint Joseph Valley Memorial Park Cemetery, Granger. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, September 13th, at Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend.
