James McMillen

Jim McMillen

1924 - 2019

SOUTH BEND, IN - Jim McMillen passed away peacefully with Carol, his wife of 72 years and the love of his life, at his side. Born in South Bend, Indiana, he graduated from Riley High School and played football for Purdue, where he graduated with a Masters in Chemical Engineering and enjoyed 35 years as a Chemical Engineer with Kodak. The highlight of his career for him and his family was the time they spent living in Mexico City while he was a Project Engineer overseeing the manufacturing film plant being built in Guadalajara.

There are 3 children, 4 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 6 step-great-grandchildren, and numerous extended family members who will miss him. He generously shared his time and talents with his community helping to design and build the clubhouse for the Canoe Club, serving on the PTA in West Irondequoit, tutoring high school math students, driving for Meals On Wheels, leading a Colgate Rochester Divinity School renovation project, serving as a trustee and usher for Third Presbyterian Church and in his later years as a council member of The Highlands.

Jim enjoyed life, building and fixing things on his workbench, sailing, waterskiing, football, tennis, traveling, and his family and many friends. Those around the world who knew him will remember his humbleness, kindness, and genuine love of people.

His service will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family.

Donations in his honor may be made to a charity of your choice or to Hospice.
