SOUTH BEND - Julius R. "Jutz" Wilk, 83, passed away on Sunday, March 4, in the Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation Center, South Bend. He was born on September 16, 1923, in South Bend, to the late Sophia (Kohan) and Frank Wilk. Also preceding Mr. Wilk in death were two sisters, Cecilia Bilchaaz and Bertha Kalleward; and five brothers, Stanley, Frank, Benny, Henry and Florian Wilk.

On November 17, 1951, in South Bend, he married Joan Thoman, who survives. Mr. Wilk is also survived by two sons, Floyd R. Wilk of Reseda, CA, and Dennis L. Wilk of South Bend; and three brothers, Thaddeus, Casimer "Chick" and Joseph (Jean) Wilk, all of South Bend.

Mr. Wilk was a mechanic for Amalgamated Transit, Rocketdyne and Lockheed Companies, all in California. He was a graduate of Riley High School, South Bend. During World War II he served in the Army, received the Purple Heart, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He loved to bowl, play softball, and was a gifted woodworker. He was a talented singer, musician, carpenter and mechanic. Mr. Wilk was a great man and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Services and military rites for Mr. Wilk will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, in the Mausoleum Chapel at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, where friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial will follow the services at the cemetery. The Welsheimer Family Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association, 7363 East 21st St., Indianapolis, IN 46219.
