Barbara Louise (Hatala) Stevenson

April 29, 1948     ~     May 27, 2022

Barbara L. Stevenson, 74, went home to her heavenly Father, Friday May 27, 2022, while surrounded by her loved ones. Barb, as she was affectionately known, was born April 29, 1948, to Cecilia (Lukowski) and Andrew Hatala in South Bend, IN.

She Graduated from James Whitcomb Riley High school of South Bend in 1966. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church where she also worked as a lunchroom and teacher aide for 30 plus years. Barb also worked at Muessel Elementary as a Title I teacher for 10 years. When not listening to Catholic hymns and other music, Barb loved taking walks, going to the beach, watching her favorite TV shows, such as American Idol, and laughing and sharing love with her entire family. She also enjoyed decorating for the holidays, admiring butterflies, tending to her plants, and always deeply expressing her love and care for all animals.

Those left to cherish her memory include her brother Larry Hatala of New Carlise, IN; her three daughters, Pamela Hartman, Terrie (Jeff) Basney, and Rebecca Hartman of South Bend, IN; her son Charles (Adriana) Stevenson of Valparaiso, IN; her six grandchildren, Ashley (Andrice) Cox of South Bend, IN; Krystal (Kenneth) McKinney of Marietta, GA; Brandi Hartman of South Bend, IN; Kirstyn Kubiak of Niles, MI; Colin Stevenson of Valparaiso, IN; Cecelia Stevenson of Valparaiso. Her grandson, Austin Matthew of IN, who she longed to reunite with. Her two nieces, Nanette (Larry) Nard of Mishawaka, IN; Tami Hatala of Granger, IN; her great-grandchildren, Khambri, Kamden, Ryan, Kenneth, Christian, and Kasen; her close friends Patty (Bill), Mary, and Shirley; and many other cousins and friends. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Andrew and Cecilia Hatala; her sister, Karen Hatala; and her uncle, Pete Lukowski.

The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions may be made to Pet Refuge of South Bend, or any local animal shelter. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—” - 2 Timothy 4:7-8
