INDIANAPOLIS – It is with great sadness that the family of Timothy John Gillen announces his passing after a battle with cancer, November 9, 2021, at his home in Indianapolis, IN.

Timothy was born July 5, 1953, in South Bend, IN to the late Thomas M. and Marlin L (Kirby) Gillen. He graduated from James Whitcomb Riley High School in 1972 and then attended Davenport College.

Timothy began his professional career on the Indianapolis Fire Department in 1984 where he went on to serve his community for 28 years. Most of this time was spent at Station 13 in downtown Indianapolis where he taught and specialized in Hazardous Materials.

Timothy had an adventurous spirit noted by his love to travel. His life motto was “Dare to be different”! Unlike most, Tim piloted his own planes and sailed his own ships to arrive at his destinations. He took pleasure sampling the local beverages and cuisine and enjoyed recreating these dishes at home. Tim struck up conversations and made friends any place he went, leaving behind his impression on many people, animals and islands throughout the Caribbean. He will be remembered for hi fun loving sense of humor, always looking to make people laugh and feel at ease.

Timothy took great pride in his family, ensuring his daughter, granddaughters, nieces and nephews were always looked after. Timothy is survived by his daughter, Megan (Scott) Geisinger; his twin granddaughters, Kennedy and Harper Geisinger; sisters Geraldine (Dale) Wedel, Mary Kay (Timothy) Beekman, Susan (Alan) Kilburn and Marlene, as well as many nieces, nephews, Gillen-Kirby cousins, friends and BFF Gary Ruble.
