WHEN THAT OLD FOG HORN BLOWS, I WILL BE COMING HOME! (Van Morrison)

I have pulled my anchor and set my sails for my final adventure.  Family and friends are eagerly waiting for my arrival.  My mom and dad, Elvin & Maxine Hummel, my brother Buster, aunts, uncles, and friends are waiting with open arms to welcome me.

In April 1970 I married Sandra Knight and was blessed with 2 sons: Kyle (1974) and Matthew (1977).

Sadly, I leave behind my wife Marcia, my son Kyle, his wife Rachel and my grandchildren James and Bridget, my son Matthew and my grandchildren Ellie and Ben, my sister Cheryl (Ron) Stuckey and Madonna Hummel (Buster’s wife) and all my nephews and nieces.  The memories will live on.  I am so very proud of my two sons and Rachel who continues to be a pillar of strength.  They are wonderful parents.

Marcia’s family was an integral part of my life.  Kurt McKesson, John E. Fairres (nephews) and Mike Huys (brother) were always there for me.  I’m counting on you to continue with your support.

Late in life, I married Marcia on August 23, 2003, and the two of us were a team.  I wish everyone could experience the love we had for each other.  Upon retiring from Mossberg and Company as VP and Sales, we certainly did not let any grass grow under our feet.  We traveled, sailed, and became snowbirds. We sure had fun with those boats!  I fulfilled my dream of becoming a captain, sailing our 45-foot yacht from our home port of South Haven, MI.  We bought “our” first together dream home in 2018.  We wanted our children and grandchildren to enjoy the lake life.  The fishing, tubing, fires on the beach, volleyball, basketball are such good memories.  I want you to continue to enjoy these things.  But grandkids, do not let Grandma Marcia tow you…..she is a better watcher!

Our winter home in FL just added to our adventures.  The beach, friends, dancing, and volleyball.  My grandson’s, James and Ben will cover for me on the volleyball court.  Watch out, my friends, they are very good!  There are things that need improvement…like my dance moves…but I will be working on that Marcia!

They say in life, if you have 1 good friend, it is enough.  I was sure lucky to have so many that still are watching over Marcia.  Have a glass of wine on my behalf once in a while.  Don’t go overboard!

Weren’t we blessed with such a wonderful life?  I have a wife who fully loved and supported me and loves my children.  I have children who love me and of whom I am so very proud!  Stay close! Remember all the good times!  Remember how important family is to me.

Well, it is time for me to go.  I sure had fun here and we will meet again when you are ready to come home.  Have a great life and don’t let a minute slip by.  Your time here is very short.  I love all of you!

A Celebration of life will be held at a later date.
