Carol Mae Goodhew passed away on Friday, December 4, 2020. Carol was born December 27, 1935 in Manitowoc, Wisconsin to the late Clara E. (Drumm) and Howard R. Goodhew, Sr. and was also preceded in death by her brothers, Howard R. Goodhew, Jr. (Marie) and Wallace U. Goodhew (Shirley), her aunt Cora Koenig (Benjamin) and her cousin, June Hendrichs (Jack).

Carol is survived by nieces, Pam Gibboney (Jack), Candie Hendrichs King, Laurie Schuster Meyer (Daryl), and Janice Bell (Pat); and nephews, William Goodhew, James Goodhew (Nancy), Mark Goodhew, Kenneth Goodhew (Kathy), Phillip Goodhew (Mary), Thomas Goodhew (Renee), and Brian Hendrichs (Sue) along with numerous grandnieces and grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.

Carol graduated from Riley High School in South Bend, Indiana. While in high school she participated in a bike hosteling trip through the YWCA sponsored by the American Youth Hostel Program. After high school she enrolled at Kalamazoo College where she played in the band and on the tennis team. She later transferred to St. Mary's College where she completed her BS degree. Carol then began a 45+ year career in the microbiology department at South Bend Medical Foundation and in 1970 received the outstanding medical technologist award in the State of Indiana.

Carol was a member of the First Methodist Church of South Bend where she was an active choir member for most of her life. Carol always enjoyed sports of all kinds and both played in and helped organize the women's golf league in South Bend. Carol enjoyed yard work, travel, dinner parties (especially the lobster boils) with friends, the Chicago Cubs and all Notre Dame sports. Carol was always willing to play inside/outside games of any kind with her nieces and nephews and once broke her toe while playing backyard soccer with her grandnieces and grandnephews.

Carol was a kind, good-natured, selfless, strong person and two-time cancer survivor. She was the rock for so many others, always ready to lend a helping hand to friends and family no matter the task. She will truly be missed by friends and family alike.

Due to the health and safety concerns for COVID-19 there will be no visitation at this time. A memorial service will be held in the future.
