Kay Frances Reynolds (Kletka)

Kay (Reynolds) Kletka

Longtime Anchorage resident, Kay "GMom or Grandma Kay" Frances Kletka, 77, went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 in Anchorage.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 p.m., Thursday, January 9, 2014 at the Sunset Hills Baptist Church, 12130 Old Seward Hwy. in Anchorage. Pastor Don Shannon will officiate. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the services. A celebration of Kay's life will follow the services at 5:30 p.m. at the church. She will be laid to rest at the Angelus Memorial Park Cemetery in the Spring of 2014.

Kay was born July 14, 1936 to Lloyd Russell & Myrtle Irene (Hoskins) Reynolds in South Bend, Indiana where she graduated from Riley High School in South Bend, IN.

She moved to Alaska in 1967 where she began working for the Federal Government/BLM in November of 1973. She then worked for the Joint Pipeline Office from which she retired in September of 2002. She enjoyed working the mineral patent applications for mining claims. Kay travelled around the world visiting many of the mining claims. She realized how hard the old miners worked and how much of their lives they devoted to making their claims work. Kay was determined to help them work through the claims process. That determination led her to write a booklet guiding the miners through the process and preparing a mining application. Kay garnered an award for her work with the mining community and helped to create a climate of understanding between miners and the Bureau.

Since 1967, Kay was an active member of the Sunset Baptist Church and volunteered as a tutor for the ESL, literacy counsels teaching English as a second language. She had a love for sports, especially basketball. Kay quoted, "I'm from Indiana and am a Hoosier. I grew up playing alley basketball with my brother and his friends." She attended local sporting competitions including the UAA Seawolves and high school championship games. Kay also loved giraffes, classic music especially Irish Tenors. She was a former member of the Alaska Sailing Club and the Anchorage Sports Car Club.

Kay suffered from rheumatoid arthritis, but that never slowed her down, nor dampened her spirits. Kay was a loving and thoughtful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was always willing to help and very involved in her family and extended families' lives.
