Richard D. "Dick" Wasoski

February 5, 1931 ~ June 4, 2023        92 Years Old

Richard D. “Dick” Wasoski, 92, of South Bend, IN, passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2023 in his home, following an illness.

He was born on February 5, 1931 to the late Albert and Erena (Poklinkowski) Wasoski in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong area resident.  Along with his parents; Dick was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kristi; three sisters, Elizabeth Johnson; Eldonna A. Cabanaw; Loretta Royce; and two brothers, James Wasoski and Charles Wasoski.

Dick graduated in 1949 from Riley High School and was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving his country from 1951-1954.

Dick was a self-employed Insurance Counselor/Agent for Farmers Insurance Group in South Bend, IN, where he retired after 38 years.  He also served as the German Township Trustee for 24 years and was a captain of the ushers, in the student section, at Notre Dame Football games for over 30 years.  

On February 19, 1955, he married Betty L. Calkins at St. Matthew Catholic Church in South Bend, IN.  Betty passed away on November 28, 2007.

Dick is survived by his four daughters, Jacquelyn M. (Jeff) Jones of Sanford, CO; Cynthia Anne (Robert) Bruntz of South Bend, IN; Theresa D. (Todd) Tamer of Windemere, FL; Mary Beth (Maury) Green of South Bend, IN; three sons, Richard A. (Margie) Wasoski of South Bend, IN; David M. (Michelle) Wasoski of South Bend, IN; Jonathon P. (Corkie) Wasoski of South Bend, IN; 22 grandchildren, Adriana, Jason, Travis, Jeremy, Clayton, Meghan, Kyle, Josh, Laura, Jon, Emily, Briana, Juan, Roman, Camilla, James, Christina, Ryan, Brandon, Austen, Nathan, and Madelyn; 13 great grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth Wasoski of South Bend, IN; Frederick (Carol) Wasoski of South Bend, IN; and one sister-in-law, Mimi Wasoski of Pennsville, NJ.

Dick was a longtime member of Corpus Christi Parish, where he was an usher, cantor, choir member, the first President of Corpus Christi Home and School Association; and a member of the Corpus Christi Men’s Club.  He was also a member of the Serra Club; Arch Bishop John Carroll Knights of Columbus Council 5570; Fr. J.A. Nieuwland Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus; Area Council of Catholic Men; and St. Joseph County Right to Life. He was a long-time blood donor who gave at least 22 gallons of blood.

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Friday, June 9, 2023 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN  46628, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 3:00 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2822 Corpus Christi Drive, South Bend, IN  46628, with Rev. Daryl Rybicki officiating.  Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend, IN.
