Rebecca “Becky” (Kroll) Parakowski

Rebecca “Becky” Parakowski, 79, passed away on Monday, May 16, 2022 in Memorial Medical Center of South Bend. Becky was born October 13, 1942 in South Bend to the late Walter C. and Esther (Reiter) Kroll, Sr.

On November 26, 1976 at the Cathedral of St. Matthew, South Bend, Becky was married to John J. Parakowski who preceded her in death. Surviving are her two brothers, Walter Kroll (Claudia Alkire) of Jensen Beach, FL and Frederick (Mari) Kroll of Melbourne FL; sisters-in-law, Geraldine Kroll, Gail Kroll, Christine (Randy) Borror all of South Bend, Urusula (George) Zeltner of Granger, Barbara (Kit) Johnson of Mishawaka; brothers-in-law, Henry (Leslie) Parakowski of Granger and Leo Parakowski of South Bend. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews including nieces Charlotte Kroll Dean of Ft. Lauderdale FL, Kelly (Evan) Blatt of West Palm Beach, FL, and nephew Walter Kroll III, of South Bend; great niece Presley Belle Dean and great nephews Noah Kroll and Arthur Blatt, all of Florida.

Becky retired after more than 50 years with the South Bend Community School Corporation, where she taught 1st & 2nd grades at James Monroe Elementary School & Lincoln Elementary for most of her teaching career. Becky was a strong, caring woman who loved teaching, children, family, her home and golf. She enjoyed many years of golfing with her friends in the Erskine Women’s 18 Hole Golf League where she was the President for several years. She especially enjoyed golfing with her friends Debbie, Virginia, and Marilynn.

Visitation for Becky will be 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Monday, May 23, 2022 in St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. with a Rosary to be prayed at 5:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Tuesday, May 24, 2022 in St. Matthew Cathedral with a visitation starting an hour prior to mass at the church. Graveside services will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Special thank you to South Bend Memorial Hospital, Saint Joseph Hospital, and DaVita Irish Dialysis for their care and kindness over many years. Expressions of sympathy on behalf of Mrs. Parakowski, in lieu of flowers, may be offered to the American Diabetes Association.
