SOUTH BEND - Doris K. Dean, 70, of South Bend passed away at 10:35 p.m. Wednesday, January 12, in her residence with her family at her bedside. Mrs. Dean was born on December 29, 1940, in South Bend and resided in the area her lifetime. On September 26, 1960, in South Bend, as Doris K. Bickel she married Nicholas E. Dean Sr., who preceded her in death on November 21, 2004.

She is survived by three sons, Nicholas E. (Paulette) Dean, Jr. Of South Bend, Bret E. (Gloryann) Dean of South Bend and Toby J. (Samantha) Dean of North Liberty; two sisters, Shirley G. (Norman) Milcherska and Donnabelle Marvin, both of South Bend. Also ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren whom she loved and cherished. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph A. and Lena (Rodts) Bickel; a sister, Mary L. Geyer; and a brother, Johnnie E. Smith.

Doris worked at St. Mary's College for 29 years in the housekeeping dept. prior to her illness. Mrs. Dean was a 1959 Graduate of James Whitcomb Riley High School and loved to read, crochet and kept busy cleaning her home or anyone else's that needed it.

Visitation hours will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, January 16 in Hanley & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral home located at West Ireland Road/Ind. 23, South Bend. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday January 17 in the funeral home with Dr./Rev. Joseph Baunoch and Rev. Ronald Dixon officiating. Burial to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, IN. The family request that all memorial contributions be made to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. The HANLEY & Sons "Southwest Chapel" funeral Home handled arrangements and services and extend its deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Dean family.
