SOUTH BEND - Robert James Filley, 69, residing in South Bend, passed away at 2:22 p.m. Monday, January 3, 2011 at Memorial Hospital of South Bend, following a two week illness. He was born August 1, 1941, in South Bend, a son of James & Alice (Wilkewitz) Filley, and has remained a lifelong resident.

He was a graduate of James Whitcomb Riley High School, and proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1963-1965.

On June 23, 1978 in South Bend, Bob was united in marriage to Pam Ranstead. He is survived by his loving wife Pam of 32 years. Also surviving is his son, Nicolas Filley of Indianapolis; a sister, Carol Albert of South Bend; and three brothers, Donald Filley, and Edward (Vickie) Filley, of Mishawaka, and Richard Filley of Oak Park, IL.

Bob retired from Ameritech Corp. He loved his cats, and enjoyed working on his computer and making CD's. Since his retirement, he enjoyed playing golf. Bob also loved going to Florida and being near the ocean. Everyday, you could find Bob sitting at the counter at Cira's Restaurant enjoying breakfast with his many friends.

At Bob's request, no services will be held. Expressions of sympathy may be offered to Pet Refuge, 2300 West 6th Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544, or to the charity of the donor's choice. The Palmer Funeral Home-River Park Chapel, and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the Filley family with arrangements.
