Beverly Marks (Newman)

LEESBURG – Beverly (Marks) Newman, 95, of Leesburg, FL, passed away on Monday, August 21, 2023, in Buffalo Crossings Rehab Facility (The Villages Florida). Her family was near.

She was born on April 29, 1928, to the late Bernard J. and Bernice M. (Bourdon) Marks of South Bend, IN. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Barry J. Marks. Prior to her death, Beverly grew up in South Bend, IN where she graduated from Riley High School.

On August 8, 1946, after he served in the U.S. Naval Submarine Fleet, she married the love of her life, Gerald F. Newman, in South Bend; he also preceded her in death. They proudly celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary together. Beverly is survived by her daughter, Bonnie (BJ) Hague of Dowagiac, MI and a son, Greg (Diane) Newman, of New Smyrna, FL. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Ryan J. Newman of Statesville, NC, and Jamie (Clay) Klepper of Danville, IN and by four great-grandchildren: Kylie Klepper, Bodie Klepper, Brooklyn Newman and Ashlyn Newman.

As her children grew, Beverly entered the workforce as an executive secretary and worked at Studebaker Corp. She later went on to work at Avanti Corp., Kaiser (later named AM General) and retired from Federal Probation in South Bend, IN.

Retirement found her moving to Dewey Lake in Dowagiac, MI and later to Leesburg, FL. Beverly was a member of Eastern Star, Avalon Grotto, Moose Lodge, Lady Lions Club, NARFE and the Eagles.

Her interests were to keep her active as she involved herself in bowling, golf, and later became a shuffleboard queen. Crossword puzzles, dominoes and playing cards were also a favorite pastime. Nothing could touch her love for racing. A long-time racing and NASCAR fan, her grandson is a NASCAR driver whom she has followed since he was 4 ½ years old. He won an SRX championship on her last night of watching him on television before she passed.

There will be no services at Beverly’s request. Cremation has taken place and a private family get together will follow at a later date.

In lieu of financial donations, please consider Organ Donation. It could save your life or one that you love. Go to indianadonornetwork.org to learn how to sign up. Other considerations would be to a Hospice organization.

Beverly crossed the Finish Line and got the checkered flag. She was ready to join her loved ones who have passed in the winner’s circle.
