MISHAWAKA - Beverly Jean "Sissy" Miller, 84, of Mishawaka, passed away at 7:50 PM on Friday, April 12 2013, at Michiana Health and Rehabilitation. She was born on April 20, 1928, in Mishawaka, to the late Ralph W. Sr. and Rita M. (Stine) Smith. Beverly married Sidney W. Miller on September 3, 1955, in South Bend; he preceded her in death on February 21, 1976.

They had one son, Todd S. Miller, born March 1, 1965, who passed away, Feb. 19, 2001. Beverly is survived by a brother, James E. Smith (Mary Alice) of South Bend and William (Linda) Miller of Michigan. Beverly or "Aunt Sissy" is also survived by several nieces and nephews, Michael (Nancy) Smith, Becky Smith, Dawn (Brad) Auten, Jeffery (Christy) Miller and Jennifer Miller. Beverly or "Grandma" had several "adopted" family as well. A daughter she was extremely close to, Roni (Riddle) Smale-Miller, a son-in-law, S. Scott Smale, and their 5 children, Michael Miller, 26, Samantha Miller, 24, Calista Miller, 12, Rachel Smale, 14, Adam "A.J." Smale, 12, and Abriella "Bella" Smale-Miller, 4, all of Mishawaka.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph Sr. and Rita Smith; her husband, Sidney Miller; her son, Todd Miller; and grandsons, Eric Joseph Miller and Dexter Rick Smale-Miller. She was also preceded in death by her two older brothers, Ralph (Helen) Smith and Robert (Betty) Smith of South Bend.

Beverly also had close friends that she considered family: Rick Riddle of Mishawaka, Sherri Phillips and her two daughters, Cheyenne Phillips-Jacobs and Madison Byrd, all of South Bend. Beverly was well-known as Mom, Mammy, Grandma and Sissy. She loved spending time with her "adopted" family and friends.

Beverly graduated from Riley High School and kept in touch with several classmates throughout the years.

She was a beautiful, strong, loving person. She was always taking care of someone or some stray pet. She loved to do gardening, planting flowers, and always enjoyed nature.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 04, 2013, at Bubbs Funeral Chapel in Mishawaka at 4 PM. There will be a visitation from 3 PM-4 PM for family and friends. Memorial donations may be given to the family to help offset funeral expenses or to a cause that meant a lot to her, the Humane Society of St. Joseph County.
