David Michael Glaser

David Michael Glaser

September 18, 1952 - June 20, 2021

David Michael Glaser, 68 years, of Palm Harbor, Florida, was released from the loving arms of his wife and three daughters and into the loving embrace of his Heavenly Father on June 20, 2021. Although David still had a lot of life and fight to give this world, the life he spent gracing us with his presence will be cherished forever. David was born on September 18, 1952, in South Bend, Indiana to Don and Joan Glaser.

David attended South Bend Schools, beginning his education at Studebaker Elementary and graduating from Riley High School in 1970. While attending Studebaker Elementary, David discovered his love for the game of golf. Even as a child, he enjoyed the rules, the competition, and the fun of the game. This love continued throughout David’s life and he continued to learn, play and master the game. Not only did he appreciate and enjoy actively participating, but he also thoroughly enjoyed watching golf anytime it was televised and in 2017 checked a bucket-list item off when he attended the Masters. After graduating from Riley High, David continued his education and attended Indiana University (South Bend), where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business in 1975. In the early 2000s, David decided to continue his thirst for knowledge and successfully returned to college to further his education. David completed his courses and proudly received his Master of Business Administration in 2004. David was incredibly proud of his alma mater, Indiana University, and was a Hoosier through and through. He always enjoyed watching an IU basketball game and even IU football (even though they are typically the underdogs). After graduating from Indiana University, David continued his love for crunching numbers and became a Licensed Certified Public Accountant in 1979 and opened his own practice in 1980.

In the midst of following his adoration for accounting, he found time to socialize in his downtime from his work and meet his life’s truest love, Sue (Frederick) Glaser. David and Sue met in 1978; there was no way for them to ‘hideaway from the love and connection they both felt and so, they married on March 8, 1979. David and Sue lived together in Osceola, on the St. Joe River and when they discovered that their family would begin growing, so did their ability to work together on home projects and do-it-yourself remodeling. David loved home projects and keeping busy, there normally wasn’t a project too big for him to complete, especially with Sue by his side. David and Sue worked on their next big project together, beginning in 1980, the task of raising three daughters together.

In the summer of 1988, David’s career moved him and his ‘Glaser Girls’ out of Indiana and down to Vero Beach, Florida when he ‘landed’ a job as the CFO of Piper Aircraft. Not long after the move to Florida, David discovered a new hobby that he not only enjoyed, but also thrilled him, cycling. David became an avid cyclist after moving to Vero Beach, joining a ‘pack’ of other cyclists and discovering a need for speed. He began signing up for and entering races and rides through the cycling groups that he discovered. One of David’s favorite annual races not only became one his favorite places to ride but also to visit with his family, Mount Dora. The challenge, the hills, the excitement were all something that he looked forward to each year that he participated. In 1994, he had the opportunity to ride the Inaugural Disney Tour Fun Ride in which he cycled from the Tampa area all the way to Disney World in Orlando. Most recently, David was a member of the Suncoast Cycle Group where he made some wonderful friends that he spent time with on and off the road. His love for cycling always reminded those around him that the secret of life is to just enjoy the ride!

In the winter of 1992, David’s next career move transplanted him and his Glaser Girls from Vero Beach to Dunedin. He became the VP of Finance and CFO of Pride Enterprises. David’s career path after Pride Enterprises led him to work with Encore. From there, David created his own company, Piper Capital, LLC, and assisted numerous businesses with their accounting and financial needs in improving their profit and fiscal revenue. From January 2010-2017, David was employed as the CFO of Gasco Affiliates. In 2017, David ‘semi-retired from Gasco, but continued to work with small businesses utilizing his accounting abilities to assist different companies.

David loved his family and not a day went by that he wasn’t working hard to set a good example, instill core work values and provide for his family and his wife Sue. Even though David and his family moved out of Indiana, he traveled with his family back to South Bend every summer. These trips and memories that were made in the summertime with Sue and their ‘three M’s’ were some of his favorite times. Spending time with his best friends and their families, making new memories with his family, and enjoying their free time during these trips were some of the best times in David’s life. Road trips to Indiana with Sue were always on the top of the list when it came to David’s most memorable and enjoyable times. Spending quality time with Sue and his family was David’s favorite way to spend his spare time; frequently being surrounded by their love and laughter was his preferred way to spend his free time.
Another important pastime and interest of David’s was researching his family history, trying to find out as much as he could about his family tree, and sorting through thousands of family photos. David cherished these photos and memories and the history that were represented.
David was a proud member of Northwood Presbyterian Church. He treasured his time spent worshiping with his wife and the genuine friends that he made there.
David had a deep affection for his medical ‘team’ that cared for him, encouraged him, and kept him ‘fighting the good fight.’ Without the extraordinary doctors, nurses, and uplifting staff, he would have had a much different experience, whether it was for many years or just a few days. He appreciated and was grateful for: Dr. Highshaw, Advent Health (Wesley Chapel); Dr. Marte, Florida Cancer; Dr. Falla, Oldsmar Family Practice; Dr. Boyd and Dr. Avile, Mease Countryside; Empath and Suncoast Hospice.

David is survived by: his wife, Susan (Frederick) Glaser (Palm Harbor); daughters: Mandy Glaser (Dunedin), Molly (Glaser) Gillen and husband Ben Gillen (Palm Harbor), Michelle (Glaser) Hanway (Dunedin), and two granddaughters: Grayce Hanway and Charlotte Hanway.
To say that David will be missed is an understatement. David was deeply loved by his wife, daughters, granddaughters, son-in-law, family, and friends. David has left his imprint on every life that he touched and his contagious smile and memory will never be forgotten. In David’s memory, please never forget that, “life is a beautiful ride.” Be sure to enjoy all the beauty and love that life has to offer.
