Donald J. Carroll

SOUTH BEND - Donald Carroll, 81, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2016 in his home surrounded by his family.

Don was born January 11, 1935 in South Bend to the late Marie (Vahanik) Carroll. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Ann; and brothers, John, Charles, Robert and Eugene Carroll.

On April 20, 1963, Don married his loving wife RoseMary (Laskowski) Carroll of South Bend; she survives along with their son, Kevin M. Carroll; sisters, Pat Rulli, and Mary (Bill) Hawley; and several nieces and nephews.

Don graduated from Riley High School in 1956, where he enjoyed wrestling and was an award winning weight lifter. He retired from Alro Steel after 35 years employment in 1997. Don then worked at Erskine Golf Course as a starter for 13 years. He was a parishioner of St. Jude's Catholic Church. Don enjoyed golfing, playing cards in the “Altgeld Street Euchre Club” and was very particular about caring for his lawn; he loved mowing, even for others.

The family would like to thank Dr. Bilal Ansari & his staff and Hospice, especially Kendra, Danielle & Jenny for their exceptional care and support.

There will be a service for Don at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park Mausoleum Thursday, October 20, 2016 at 2:00pm. ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 1827 Ireland Road is assisting the family.

Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
