Sharon Ann (DeFreeuw) Banicki

Sharon A. Banicki, 84, of Mishawaka, IN passed away at 11:55 p.m. Friday, February 11, 2022 in Healthwin Specialized Care. Sharon was born on September 28, 1937 in Mishawaka, Indiana to Edward and Mary (Moody) DeFreeuw. She had formerly been employed as a Telegraph Operator with Western Union.
On April 25, 1959 she married Lawrence R. Banicki, who preceded her in death on November 18, 2009. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah A. Banicki on June 13, 2000; and her step-father, Emanuel “Bill” Slott. Sharon is survived by her daughter, Pamela (Thomas) Walkowiak of South Bend, Indiana; two sons, Michael A. Banicki of South Bend, Indiana and Kenneth E. (Delphine) Banicki of Lake Elsinore, California; four grandchildren, Christopher Walkowiak, Shaun Banicki, Tori Banicki and Emma Banicki; her sister, Jackie (David) Maez of South Bend, Indiana; and her brother, Barry (Kathy) Slott of South Bend, Indiana.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 25, 2022 in Holy Family Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana, where a rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m.
Sharon was a member of Hoy Family Parish. She was a 1956 graduate of Riley High School. Sharon enjoyed sewing and going to fabric stores; going out to eat and spending time with friends; and playing bingo and cards. She especially loved spending time with her family during the holidays.
