SOUTH BEND - Charles “Chuck” F. Nelson, age 77, of Mishawaka, passed away on December 21, 2015, at his home. He was born February 7, 1938, to Axel I. “Bill” and Hilma A. (Anderson) Nelson in South Bend, Indiana. On February 14, 1960, Chuck married Joyce Schweisberger, who preceded him in death in 2001. He then married Yvonne Parker on September 30, 2004.

Chuck was a graduate of Riley High School and went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army.

He completed an apprenticeship in plumbing and started his own business, P.H.A. Co., Inc., in 1977. Chuck was a lifetime bowler, former member of the Elks Lodge and later the Moose Lodge, and was a drag racer when he was younger. He enjoyed fishing, playing cribbage and cards (especially poker), watching NASCAR, and was a die-hard Chicago Bears fan. He was very handy and could fix almost anything.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Yvonne of Mishawaka; three daughters, Melissa Nelson (Jim Burton) of Susanville, CA, Melinda (Michael) Lewis of Franklin, IN, and Melanie (Eric) Johnson of Hudson, OH; stepson, Daniel Bradley Peters of Elkhart, IN; stepdaughters, Cynthia (Salah) Hilal of South Bend, IN, and Connie (Don) Reiner of Portland, OR; three grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Donald (Diann) Nelson of South Bend, IN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Joyce; and his sister, Jeanine Becker.

Family and friends will be received on Monday, December 28, 2015, from 5-7 PM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, IN 46561. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at 10 AM at the funeral home, with Pastor Warren Kirkwood officiating. There will also be a time of visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Albright United Methodist Church Food Pantry, 504 W. Mishawaka Avenue, Mishawaka, IN 46545; or to The Faith Mission, 801 Benham Avenue, Elkhart, IN 46516.
