Howard Edward "Ed" Stump

November 4, 1940 ~ May 31, 2023         82 Years Old

Howard Edward “Ed” Stump, 82, of South Bend, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on May 31, 2023. Ed was born on November 4, 1940 on the family farm in North Liberty, Indiana to the late Howard D. and Lillian L. Stump.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sherry L. Stump; brother, Arthur Stump; brother-in-law, John DeSouza; daughters, Cheryl (Mark) Allen and Tamara Doughty; son, Wayne Stump; and step-son, Brett Stump.  Also surviving are nephew, John Devon DeSouza, 14 grandchildren; Andrew (Melissa) Webb, Brett “BJ” (Sarah) Stump, Matthew Patrick, Dillon Allen, Bryan Leniski, Seth Reinoehl, Samuel Zeeryp, Lukas Stump, Jordan Reinoehl, Jo’el Stump, Jillian Stump, Krystal (Thayne) Robertson, Brittney (Montana) Millican, Nicole Peltz and numerous great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Anita DeSouza, and step-son, David P Stump Jr.

A graduate of Riley High School, Ed went on to develop two successful businesses, Wood Processing and Ed Stump Assembly. As an entrepreneur, he loved designing and developing new antler products.

Ed was a man of many interests and talents. He was an extreme outdoorsman with a great passion for hunting; whether it was in the mountains of Montana for elk and moose, the foothills of Alaska for bear, or the waters of Table Rock Lake for ducks and geese with his great grandson, Gage Peltz, Ed was in his element. He had a strong devotion for preserving history by displaying artifacts from the West in his home.  He was a skilled lapidarist and loved to study and various cultures and historical events.

Funeral services for Ed will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at Community Baptist Church, 5715 Miami Street, South Bend.  Pastor Joe Fant will officiate.  Graveside services and burial will follow at Fair Cemetery, North Liberty.  Friends may visit with the family beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the church.  Palmer Funeral Home, Lakeville, is assisting the family.
