Brandi M. Borr

Jan. 4, 2008
SOUTH BEND - Brandi Merle Borr, 39, a long time Chicago resident and internationally known comedian, died in Illinois Masonic Hospital on January 4, after a nine-year journey with inflammatory breast cancer.

While living in London for six years with her husband, John Domagalski, Brandi cultivated her stand-up comedy career. She was named one of the best New Faces in England in 2003. Brandi performed frequently in the United Kingdom, doing stand-up, appearing in commercials and producing for stars like Joan Rivers at the Haymarket Theatre in London and festivals in Scotland. Brandi also performed her own shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festivals. Brandi often worked jokes about her breast cancer journey into monologues, helping others to laugh and cheer for living every day to the fullest. After returning to Chicago in 2004, Brandi performed in Atlanta and the Chicago metropolitan area at Zanie's and other venues, including opening for Chicagoan, Jeff Garland. Her final Chicago area appearance was the opening act for the late Richard Jeni show in 2006. A mark of Brandi's indomitable spirit was that she took Jeni's call during a hospital chemotherapy treatment and accepted the gig for several days later without hesitation.

Brandi loved to travel and visit with her family and friends. She had incredible energy and will to enjoy life despite her disease. Brandi was passionate about her spirituality and embraced many alternative and holistic treatments for breast cancer, in addition to traditional Western medicine. In addition to her amazing comedic talents, Brandi will be remembered for her kindness, sincerity and generosity. A

Native of South Bend, IN, she is a graduate of Indiana School of Journalism and Riley High School.

She worked for the South Bend (IN) Tribune, the Tribune Company and Palmer Bellevue Consulting, both of Chicago, before moving to London in 1998. She leaves behind her devoted canine companions, Al and Molly.
