Dorothy D. (Crawford) Shepherd
Dorothy Dean Shepherd Feb. 2, 1922 - Feb. 15, 2015 NEW CARLISLE - Dorothy Dean Shepherd, age 93, of La Porte, passed away on February 15, 2015, at Hamilton Grove Healthcare Center in New Carlisle, Indiana. She was born in South Bend, Indiana, on February 2, 1922, to Frank and Pearl (Hay) Crawford.
Dorothy graduated from Riley High School in South Bend. She attended North Central College in Naperville, Illinois, Defiance College in Defiance, Ohio, and Indiana University South Bend.
On July 22, 1945, Dorothy married Reverend Joseph Shepherd in South Bend, Indiana. For forty years, she worked with Joseph in the ministry at churches as a choir director, secretary, and Sunday school teacher. Dorothy worked as a substitute teacher for the La Porte Community Schools. She was also employed as a reading tutorial assistant at Stillwell Elementary School, a job she enjoyed immensely. During her retirement years, she worked numerous hours as a volunteer for La Porte Hospital.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, and one son, Joseph David Shepherd.
Dorothy is survived by one daughter, Judith DiAnn Shepherd, daughter-in-law, Linda Larkin Shepherd, granddaughter, Bryn Fletcher, and two great-grandsons, Ethan Haggin and Brody Fletcher.
A private, family graveside service will be conducted at a later date at Highland Cemetery in South Bend, Indiana. Arrangements will be entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home in La Porte, Indiana.
