Albert J. Domonkos

Albert J. Domonkos, 83, of Tanglewood Trace, Mishawaka, formerly of Erskine Blvd., South Bend, clod Friday morning in Countryside Place Nursing Home, Mishawaka. Albert was owner of Domonkos & Son Grocery on East Broadway Street, South Bend, and retired from Stanz Food Service after 25 years. He was born June 19, 1923, in South Bend, to Anthony and Justina (Godollel), who preceded him in death along with two brothers, Anthony and Lewis.

On June 30, 1945, In St. Stephen's Catholic Church, he married Goldie J. Istenes, who survives along with two daughters, Judy (John) Bruce of Osceola and Margaret (Ken) Michaels of Niles, Michigan; two sons, Andrew (Sandra) Domonkos of Granger and Steve (Denise) Domonkos of Mishawaka; nine grandchildren, Tracy Longfellow, Jennifer Robinson, Kevin Oomonkos, Renee Frigo, Amanda Hirsch, Jacob Wozniak, Sam, Ben and Jake Domonkos; and four great-grandchildren.

Albert was a lifetime member of St. Matthew Parish where he served as an usher and member of the Holy Name Society. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5521, a World War II Army Air Force veteran serving in England, a former secretary of the St. Joseph Valley Grocers Association, and former head of the local Parkinson's Support Group. His greatest love was being with his family and repairing old clocks along with gardening.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday In the Cathedral of St Matthew. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call 2 to 6 p.m. today in the HICKEY Funeral Home, 3516 E. Jefferson Blvd., where a Rosary will be said at 4:30 p.m. and 9 to 10 a.m. Monday in the church.
