Ruth E. (Pennell) Moon

South Bend –Ruth E. (Pennell) Moon, 98, passed away on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, in Memorial Hospital.

Ruth was born on March 14, 1923, in Chicago, IL to the late Loren S. and Esther (Trager) Pennell.  On April 24, 1943, Ruth married Ernest G. Moon, in South Bend, and he passed away in 2010. Her husband, Ernest, was the love of her life!  She is survived by her 3 children, Janice S. (Kent) McReynolds of Racine, WI; Diane K. Pearson of Gainesville, FL; and Gary (Jenny) Moon of Carmel, IN; 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; and 1 brother, Dick Pennell of Houston, TX. Ruth was also preceded in death by 1 granddaughter and 5 sisters. Ruth definitely had a big, loving family.

Ruth led a busy life as a devoted homemaker and also volunteered at Memorial Hospital Gift Shop, Faith United Methodist Church and the 4-H Club, among others.

Along with her love of gardening, Ruth enjoyed traveling with her family and friends, china painting, and spending time with her family.  Ruth and Ernest loved to square dance, play cards with their friends, and traveled throughout the United States in their RV.  Ruth was ‘famous’ for her brownies, apple slices, and chicken and noodles, just sayin’.  Ruth was a lifelong member at Faith United Methodist Church. 

Celebration of Life Services will be at 1pm on Monday, August 16, 2021, in Palmer Funeral Home – Welsheimer Chapel, 521 N. William St. South Bend, IN 46616, where friends may gather one hour prior  in the Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the charity of your choice.
