SOUTH BEND - Evelyn Jones, 88, residing in South Bend, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Hospice House, South Bend. Evelyn was born on August 17, 1923, in South Bend, to the late Homer C. and Florence (Gearhart) Weaver, and had been a lifelong resident of this area.

She was a 1941 graduate of Riley High School and subsequently received her Bachelor of Science in business from Indiana University.

On September 2, 1950, in South Bend, Indiana, she was united in marriage to George F. Jones, who preceded her in death on April 30, 1962. She worked at School City, The South Bend Clinic, and other businesses in the 1940s before becoming a full-time homemaker in 1951. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, South Bend, during this time.

Mrs. Jones is survived by her daughter, Sharon Jones of South Bend; two sons, Michael F. Jones of South Bend and Victor F. (Leslie) Jones II of Vandalia, Michigan; as well as three grandchildren, Trevor Jones, Laura Jones and Bryan Jones. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Marianna (Roger) Weaver; her niece, Sue (Larry) Kaletka of Madison, WI; and her nephew, Tom (Heather) Weaver of Orlando, FL.

Her brother, Roger Weaver, preceded her in death.

Evelyn was a loving mother who had a great sense of humor. She played in the Riley Marching Band and sang in the Glee Club. She was an avid I.U. fan. Her favorite activities included bridge with her friends, family gatherings, playing cards with the family, crossword puzzles and Big Band music.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, May 10, 2012, at Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 - 7:30 PM on Wednesday in the funeral home, with a short celebration of Evelyn's life at 7:30 PM. Memorial contributions for Evelyn Jones may be made to Milton Adult Day Services, 922 E.
