Louise D. (Dragan) Balint
Louise D. Balint Nov. 12, 1917 - Aug. 12, 2014 SOUTH BEND - Louise D. Balint, 96, passed away at 12:34 a.m. on Monday, August 12, at Emeritus at Arborwood in Granger surrounded by her loving family. Louise was born in South Bend on November 12, 1917, to Ernest and Agnes (Prikosovits) Dragan. On April 24, 1937, in South Bend, she and James (Jim) Balint were married in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church, a marriage that would last 49 years until his death on January 22, 1987. She is survived by sons, Robert (Margaret) Balint of Granger and Brian (Pam) Balint of Mishawaka; grandchildren, Beth Ann (Joseph) Olinger of Lake Forest, IL, Christopher (Susan) Balint of Granger, Ann Marie (Sean) Dolgos of Granger, Bradley Balint of Indianapolis and Audrey Balint of Columbus, OH; and great-grand-children, Hannah, Sydney and Maximilian Olinger of Lake Forest, IL, and Emma, Owen, Evan and Ella Balint, Sophia and Lucy Davidson, and Stella Dolgos, all of Granger; sisters, Wilma Jones of Chicago and Dorothy Heet of South Bend; brother, Ernest Dragan of Oxnard, CA; and 18 nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, infant son, James R. Balint, sister, Margaret Balogh, and brothers, Rudy and Fred Dragan.
A lifelong local resident, Louise was a 1936 graduate of James Whitcomb Riley High School.
She retired from the South Bend Medical Foundation's Cytology Department in 1980 after 13 years of service. During World War II, she worked as a riveter at Bendix and also was employed over the years at Wilson Brothers, Bike Web, South Bend Toy Manufacturing, Maho-wald's Luggage Store and Jackson High School. The job descriptions she cherished most however were those of daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. Louise loved to laugh and had a wonderful sense of humor all her own. She enjoyed the beauty of nature, the comings and goings of birds at her feeders, the adventure of travel, the pleasure of cooking, baking, and tending to her beautiful flowers, and the response of "I love you more" when told that she was loved. Louise, a lifelong member of Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church, belonged to the Immaculate Conception Fraternity of the Secular Franciscan Order which led the Rosary at her visitation on Thursday at Zahoran Funeral Home in South Bend.
A Mass of Christian Burial officiated by Father Kevin Bauman was held yesterday at Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church followed by private services at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
