Joseph was born on March 5, 1918 in South Bend to Fabian and Rose (Koczan) Koloszar. Joe retired in 1983 from St. Joseph Bank and Trust as a Vice-President, where he was employed for 37 years. He was a bowler for many years and was a member of the South Bend Bowling Hall of Fame. He also participated in his later years in the Senior Olympics and has many gold medals to his credit. He was also very active in his kids' and his grandkids' lives, attending many sporting events, plays, etc. even when it meant travelling several hours to be there. He was a big Cubs fan, and got to enjoy seeing them win the World Series. He also loved watching all Notre Dame sports, and volunteered at the College Football Hall of Fame.

Joe served in the United States Army during World War II and was a member of Our Lady of Hungary Church, its Holy Name Society and Ushers Club.

On May 14, 1949 he married the former Rachel Baele. She died on August 16, 2002. Also preceding him in death are a brother Rudy and sister Amelia Barcza.

Surviving are a son David (Shirley), Granger, IN; son Michael (Jan), Russiaville, IN; daughter Ellen (Phil) Wilke, Wyoming, MI; brother Louis of South Bend; grandchildren: Joe (Krista) Koloszar, Edwardsburg, MI; Kristin (Adam) Kirby, Naperville, IL; Erin (Steven) Kondratko, Golden, CO; Kelli Koloszar, Astoria, NY; Grant (Danielle) Koloszar, Russiaville, IN; Rachel (Zach) Hancock, Jenison, MI, and 10 great-grandchildren and a brother Louis Koloszar.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am Thursday, May 10, 2018 in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church, 829 W. Calvert Street. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Viewing will take place from 4-8 Wednesday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 South Kemble Avenue where a rosary will be recited at 4:00. Viewing will also take place on Thursday from 9:00 to 9:45 in the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church or the Center for Hospice.
