Dorothy Resner (Di Gann)

Dorothy (Resner) Di Gann

July 16, 1925 - March 6, 2012
SOUTH BEND - Dorothy Di Gann, or Oma as she was known by her grandchildren and almost everyone else who knew and loved her, passed on in the early morning, Tuesday, March 6th. She was born Dorothy Ann Resner on July 16, 1925 to Frank Resner and Rose Kobor Resner. She is preceded in death by her dearly beloved sister, Irene Locopo and brother, Joseph Peters.

She attended Riley High School, excelling in academics and music, which was a passion that influenced her life's path.

Her first love was piano, followed closely by the flute. It was while playing the flute in the South Bend Junior Symphony that she met her future husband, a violinist, Johnny Di Girolamo. They married in 1946 and two years later changed their name to Di Gann. Dorothy worked at home, raising their five children, at one time belonging to five different PTAs. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Jan Di Gann and her daughter Alexis Breeding; daughter, Mary Beth Di Gann-Herczeg, husband Fred Herczeg, and her children, Elizabeth Kropp, Emily Kropp and Zachary Kropp; daughter, Gina Di Gann-Di Girolamo (self proclaimed favorite child), and her children, Ben Grove, Katie Grove Beckerich, Teddy Linnemann and Timmy Linnermann; daughter, Pat LeMarie, husband Denis Glick, and her sons, Chris LeMarie and Nick LeMarie; son, John Di Gann, wife Lisa Di Gann, and his daughters, Aunja Di Gann and Alaina Di Gann; and four great grandchildren, Carter, Collin and Giovanni Berkerich, and Benjamen Warren.

Dorothy, a homemaker until John's death in 1975, went back to work in the banking field, in which she worked before she was married. Her last position was director of the VIC club, (a senior club) for what is now Wells Fargo Bank. She said, "It was like I had thousands of close friends, we did anything from going to free movies to traveling to Europe. I worked into my 70s and loved it." Dorothy passed on to her family her incredible strength of character, work ethic and determination to do her best in all she attempted. She was very proud of her family's accomplishments and had an insatiable love for travel and learning. A life time friend stated it well, "She certainly had style, charisma, and panache. She brightened her spot in the world." She will be sorely missed by all who knew her. She lives on in her family.

Friends may visit with the family on Friday, March 9th from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 pm, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St. A Rosary service will be held on Friday in the funeral chapel at 3:30 pm. Friends may also visit one hour prior to the Mass of Christian Burial, which is to be held at 11:00 am in St. Monica Catholic Church, 222 W. Mishawaka Ave., with Msgr. Bruce Piechocki officiating. She will eventually be laid to rest next to her husband in the Fairview Cemetery in Mishawaka.
