Erna E. (Birschitzky) Woltman

August 28, 1930 ~ December 7, 2021 (age 91)

Erna E. Woltman, 91, of South Bend, Indiana passed away at 3:53 p.m. Tuesday, December 7, 2021 in Healthwin Specialized Care.  Erna was born on August 28, 1930 in South Bend to Stephen and Elizabeth (Promintzer) Birschitzky.  She had been employed with the South Bend Community School Corporation and the University of Notre Dame as a Cafeteria Worker. On May 21, 1955 in South Bend she married “Her Sweetie” Norman Woltman, who preceded her in death on January 5, 2018. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Theodore (Joan) Birch; her brother-in-law, Eugene (Wanda) Woltman; and a nephew, Ken (Sandy) Woltman. Erna is survived by two daughters, Dianne (Robert Van Wiele) Woltman of Mishawaka, Indiana and Nancy (Roger Kahler) of Osceola, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 11, 2021 in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 3526 St. John’s Way, South Bend, Indiana. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the church.  Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.

Erna was a 1948 graduate of Riley High School.  She enjoyed watching Notre Dame men’s and women’s basketball with her family.  She  enjoyed going gambling at the “boat” (Blue Chip Casino) and playing penny poker with friends.  Erna loved talking and visiting with people, doing word searches, gardening and eating sweets.  Erna’s daughters would like to thank the staff from Healthwin for the great love and care they provided for her.
