Lois M. (Hartman) Everly

Oct. 15, 1930 - Oct. 11, 2011 SOUTH BEND - Lois Marie Hartman Everly, 80, of South Bend, IN, died Tuesday morning after a lengthy illness. She was born on October 15, 1930, in South Bend, to Robert and Ellen May (Davis) Hartman. On July 22, 1950, in South Bend, IN, she married Donald L. Everly, who preceded her in death on July 30, 1995.

Lois is survived by her daughter, Linda Everly (Ron) Doversberger of Granger; two grandchildren, Eric Everly Doversberger and Michael Everly (Kristin) Doversberger; one great-grandson, Thomas Holt Doversberger; and two brothers, Jerry Hartman of Florida and Bob (Carroll) Hartman of North Carolina.

Her grandson, Matthew Everly Doversberger, preceded her in death on December 30, 1980. And one brother, William "Red" Hartman, died August 25, 2001.

Lois enjoyed playing and watching sports with her three brothers. She was on the basketball team at Riley High School, and liked all sports, even winning the Riley Ping Pong Championship. Later in life, she was a coach for a softball league and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Lois was baptized as an adult at Trinity Lutheran Church in Elkhart. Lois worked her entire life, including as a bookkeeper for the Excel Corp. in Elkhart. She later retired as a claims processor for REAL Services. Lois was a kind and easy-going mom, grandmother and great--grandmother.

Her great friends in life were her cousin, Norma Topping, and her aunt who was her age, Betty Mangus. Lois had a special wink when she was teasing someone, and had a soft whistle when she was focusing on a project.

Family and friends are invited to a casual reception in honor of Lois at Windsor Park Conference Center, Mishawaka, on Friday, October 14, 2011, anytime between 4:30 to 6:30 PM. Palmer Funeral Home-Hickey Chapel, is assisting the family with arrangements at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Lois enjoyed dogs, especially her buddy, Dolly, a Shih-Tzu.
