Robert F. “Bob” Schultheis

Robert F. "Bob" Schultheis, 81, dedicated husband, loving father and grandfather of South Bend, IN, passed away at 11:03 a.m. Friday, January 13, 2012, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 13, 1930, to the late C.M. and Helen (Duffy) Schultheis in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong area resident. He enjoyed living 16 years in St. Joseph, MI, where he loved watching the boats on the water.

Bob graduated in 1948 from Riley High School in South Bend.

Mr. Schultheis retired in 1997 from All Phase Electric in Benton Harbor, MI, where he worked in the Personnel Department. He then retired in 2001 from Area Agency on Aging in St. Joseph, MI, where he also worked in the Personnel Department.

On May 12, 1956, he married Patricia Wartha at Holy Cross Catholic Church in South Bend, IN.
He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Schultheis of South Bend, IN; one daughter, Jeanne (Tim) Checkley of Mishawaka, IN; four sons, Gregory (Nancy) Schultheis of Mishawaka, IN, Mark (Ann) Schultheis of Carrollton, TX, Thomas (Trina) Schultheis of Mishawaka, IN, and Michael (Julie) Schultheis of Roswell, GA; 13 grandchildren, Dominic (Sarah) Schultheis, Zachary, Hannah, Kelly, Kara, Evelyn, Brent, Kasey, Coley, Brandon, Tagin and Cameron Schultheis, Emma Checkley; and two sisters, Terese Laughrey of Centerville, OH, and Catherine Taylor of Portage, MI.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, JoRita Elliott; and four brothers, Don, Thomas, James and Ley Schultheis.

Mr. Schultheis was a member of Christ the King Parish, and Knights of Columbus Santa Maria Council # 553 since 1956. He was an avid Notre Dame fan, where he worked as a Notre Dame usher for football, basketball and hockey. Bob also worked at both Notre Dame golf Courses. He loved to play a good game of "Dirty Hearts" with his family and friends, and played Santa Claus to many children for many years.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, where he served from 1951 - 1955 and spent 2 1/2 years in Korea and Japan.

Visitation will be from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Monday, January 16, 2012, at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where a combined Knights of Columbus and parish Rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at Christ the King Catholic Church. Cremation will follow.
