William L. Zimmer Dec. 26, 1930 - Sept. 28, 2014 SOUTH BEND - William Zimmer, 83, of South Bend, passed away at 7:58 p.m. Sunday, September 28, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 26, 1930 in South Bend, and has remained a lifelong resident of this community.

On November 30, 1952 in Anderson, IN, he was united in marriage to Julia Ann Roberts. They enjoyed nearly fifty-five years together until her passing on October 19, 2007. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Jared Zimmer on Oct. 29, 2001, a granddaughter, Dr. Melissa Zimmer on October 6, 2011, and his two brothers, Kenneth & Eugene "Nick" Zimmer.

Bill was a graduate of James Whitcomb Riley High School and graduated from Hanover College.

He was employed in Finance with Regal Motors from 1972-1990, served in management with Tom Naquin Chevrolet in Elkhart from 1992-1999, and then became Founder/Director of God Cares Ministry in 1999. He was a member of Agape Fellowship in Bremen where he served as an Elder and Treasurer, and member and Treasurer of Apostolic Christian Church. Following Ann's passing he attended Trinity Evangelical Free Church in South Bend with his sister, Mary Ann. He was also an active member of Gideon's International, Christian Businessmen's Association, and Centre Township Lion's Club. He also served as an usher at the University of Notre Dame. While living at the Sanctuary at St. Paul's, he was a member of the Handbell Choir.

Bill is survived by two daughters, Betsy (John) Morgan of Jacksonville, FL and Nancy (Jason) Eisenhart of Tacoma, WA; and seven sons, Terence (Linda) Zimmer of Milwaukee, WI, Joel Zimmer of Scottsdale, AZ, Bruce (Janice) Zimmer of Mishawaka, IN, Andrew (Lisa) Zimmer of South Bend, IN, Matthew (Lisa) Zimmer of Bremen, IN, David (Windi) Zimmer of Welaka, FL, and Jonathan (Michelle) Zimmer of Elkhart, IN. Also surviving are thirty-six grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, and his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Anne & Tom Steele of South Bend, IN.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 2, 2014 at Trinity Evangelical Free Church, 61700 Miami Road, South Bend. Rev. Steve Meck and Rev. Jim Fair will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 1, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend, as well as one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
