John J. Frick

SOUTH BEND - John James Frick, 92, of Lake Placid, FL, passed away Tuesday morning, November 16, 2010, in the Bay Pines VA Medical Center. He was born on July 2, 1918, in South Bend, IN, to Reuben and Mary (Taylor) Frick. He served his country as a captain in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WW II.

Mr. Frick was in the electronics business in South Bend and was active in state politics serving in the Indiana House (1964-68), Indiana Senate (1968-72), and was also a lobbyist (1973-1990). He was actively involved in leading industrial development in the South Bend area as an officer of 1st Source Bank. His community service included leadership for the International Special Olympic Games hosted in South Bend, service as a board member of the South Bend Chamber of Commerce and the Indiana Health Care Finance Authority and, his true passion, aviation, serving as president of the St Joseph County Airport Authority. Mr. Frick received a Sagamore of the Wabash, which is the State's highest award, from Indiana Governor Bob Orr.

Mr. Frick moved to Lake Placid, FL, in 1990, and was a member of the Community Church of God.

Mr. Frick was predeceased by his wife, Nola (Jeffries) Frick, and is survived by daughters, Johnette Rodriguez and Jennifer Frick, two grandchildren, and by a brother, Ralph R. Frick.

A gathering for family and friends will be held Friday, November 19, 2010, from 10 AM till 11 AM, with celebration services following at 11 AM in the Community Church of God, 735 S. Sun 'N Lakes Blvd., Lake Placid. The family requests that donations be made in Mr. Frick's honor to the Community Church of God in lieu of flowers.
