Ruth Esther Klahr, 85, of East McKinley in South Bend, passed away on January 29, 2005, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in South Bend. Ruth was born September 27, 1919, in Manistee, Michigan, to Gustav and Meta (Braun) Kristowski. On August 3, 1942, in South Bend, she married Dr. Ellsworth E. Klahr, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her son, Ross Klahr; brothers, Arnold Klahr and Herbert Klahr; and sister, Charlotte Mass.

She is survived by her son, Reverend David (Jeaneen) Klahr of Granger; daughter, Sharla (Dr. Jerry) Hickman of  Indianapolis; sisters, Erma Ray of Loveland, Colorado, and Florence Pischke of Falls Church, Virginia; five grand-children, Corinne Van Arsdale, Holly Moore, Arnold Klahr, Todd Hickman and Richard Klahr; and nine great-grand-children.

Friends may visit in the Chapel Hill Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 1, 2005, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in New Creation Fellowship INC. Church, 30190 County Road 10 in Granger. There will be one hour of viewing prior to the funeral services. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola. Donations may be made in memory of Ruth to New Life Academy.

Ruth was retired as a head surgical nurse at Saint Joseph Hospital for over 40 years, and she was recently the receptionist at New Creation Fellowship INC. Church where she regularly attended church. She was also a graduate of the Class of 1939 from Saint Joseph Hospital School of Nursing. She was a member of the Nurses Auxiliary, was formerly active in the Women's Auxiliary of the South Bend Symphony and sang with the Sweet Adeline's.
